Bulgaria’s entry into the EU caused unexpected result.
The growing wave of immigration, which followed the EU accession, left the main tourism areas in the country without workers, Spanish El Confidecial said.
At the height of the summer hotels and restaurants, mainly at the seaside, faced serious problems finding personnel.
Cooks and dish-washers among others left Bulgaria to find work in other EU countries, where the monthly wages are three or four times bigger.
Bulgaria’s workers also headed for less popular countries such as Thailand and Indonesia, the site said.
