The management of Sofia emergency institute Pirogov and staff reached an agreement concerning the demands of protesting medics, union representative Krustuy Penchev said.
Agreement includes changes in the hospitals' status, increase of the minimal salary, and improvement of the technical equipment of the hospital, Focus news agency reported.
Staff protests started on May 18. Medics received no response to their demands from authorities. The medics demanded higher wages, better equipment and working conditions.
Now that the agreement was reached, the Health Ministry had to take the final decision, Penchev said. Union representatives will meet Health Minister Radoslav Gaidarski on June 6.
Penchev said that the Health Minister, Prime Minister and Finance Minister have to decide where funds for higher salaries will come from. He said that the hospital’s medics deserved the increase as they handled very serious emergency cases 24 hours a day.
