A doctor working for Pirogov emergency institute demanded a bribe in order to perform a surgery.

The man was detained during a police operation and will remain under arrest for 24 hours, Interior Ministry said.

The surgeon demanded 1500 leva from the husband of a patient that underwent urgent surgery. The husband collected only 300 leva and at the same time told police about the demand.

On March 12 the medic was to meet the patient’s husband close to his private clinic. Minutes after the man submitted the sum, police detained the doctor and found the 300 leva he received.

Interior Ministry said that in the beginning of the year, a medic from Stara Zagora was detained for the issuing of false documents. His activity went on for nearly one year.

To make false medical reports, the medic demanded 20 to 50 leva. Using the medical reports, patients tried to get benefits like insurances and financial aid.
