The European Commission (EC) will review Bulgaria's request for additional compensation for shutting down the four reactor blocks at Kozloduy, Focus news agency quoted EC spokesperson Ferand Aradelas as saying.
The Directorate-Generale Transport and Energy of the EC had received a letter with Bulgaria's request to review the annual compensation the country receives for shutting down the Kozloduy blocks in late 2006 as part of its EU accession agreement.
Under the current agreement, Sofia would received 550 million euro until 2009 for shutting down the blocks. Around 350 million euro had already been paid.
According to unnamed EC sources, a well-argumented request for additional compensation would be more acceptable for the commission than a request to restart blocks 3 and 4.
Focus news agency quoted unnamed Bulgarian sources as saying that an additional compensation of around 80 million euro a year after 2009 would be acceptable for the EC.
