The European Commission (EC) report on Bulgaria's readiness to join the EU was used as an instrument in the electoral campaign of Bulgarian presidential candidates, mediapool.bg said.
The report would be presented on September 26, in the midst of the electoral campaign. Elections in Bulgaria are scheduled for October 22.
Opposition parties already criticised the Cabinet for its failure to cope with corruption and organised crime, mediapool.bg said.
Rightist vice president candidate Juliana Nikolova accused the Cabinet for the bad EC evaluation Bulgaria received previously. President Georgi Purvanov was also to blame, Nikolova said.
Political chaos could be accepted after the EU report was presented, EUobserver said as quoted by mediapool.bg.
Previous EC reports said Bulgaria’s anti-corruption measures were inefficient and the country failed to deal with organised crime. The final report is going to contain evaluation of the latest reforms in the country, as well as EC’s entry date recommendation for Bulgaria and Romania.
