European Commission (EC) would help small and medium enterprises to use energy and resources more efficiently, a EC press statement said.
The EC proposes a programme which would help these companies to apply European ecological legislation, Dnevnik daily reported.
The programme would be funded by LIFE+ and structural funds.
Small and medium enterprises are those with a staff of less than 250, but in the EC they make up 99 per cent of all firms. Because they form such a high percentage of the economy, they have a large impact on the environment.
The programme proposed concrete measures with which small and medium enterprises can reduce a harmful impact on the environment and it will ease the financial burden of applying European ecological legislation.
