14:37 Tue 08 Jan 2008 - Spasena Baramova

The party of Democrats for Strong Bulgaria (DSB) requested that Minister for Disaster Management Emel Etem, Finance Minister Plamen Oresharski, Regional Development and Public Works Minister Assen Gagaouzov and Transport and Communications Minister Petar Moutafchiev be removed from their positions because of their negligence and heartlessness regarding the situation in Bulgaria during the past week, DSB member of parliament Ivan Ivanov told a news conference as reported by Focus news agency.

According to DSB the critical situation in the country was caused by the lack of organisation and the incompetence of Government shown in dealing with the snowfalls that were foreseen by meteorologists and typical for the season.

For this reason, DSB wanted to hear Prime Minister Sergei Stanishev in Parliament.

According to DSB, Stanishev should explain why he did not cut short the annual leave of ministers and did not initiate a government meeting so that adequate measures could be taken. DSB would like him to clarify whether he would seek responsibility from ministers and what were the grounds for his good assessment of ministers and institutions that did not manage to cope with the crisis.
