It appears that oldies and goodies know no age limits, because Hotel California, the Eagles' hit from 1976, has been voted the favourite song for driving to in Bulgaria.

This is according to a vote organised by Eko Bulgaria and Darik Radio in a fun contest to determine Bulgarians' 50 most-loved songs for the car. More than 1500 people from around the country opined via zar.bg/top50 between July 1 and 31 2008. The purpose of the initiative was to support petroleum company Eko's safe-driving campaign Call When You Arrive! (Obadi se, kato stignesh!/Обади се, като стигнеш!).

Making up the top 10 were Enjoy the Silence by Depeche Mode, The Best by Tina Turner, I Wanna Know What Love Is by Foreigner, Crazy by Aerosmith, I Was Made for Loving You by Kiss, Road to Hell by Chris Rea, I Feel Good by James Brown, Radio Ga-Ga by Queen and Feel by Robbie Williams, according to an Eko Bulgaria media statement. Others in the top 50 were Get Outta My Dreams, Get Into My Car by Billy Ocean, Love Shack by The B-52's, King of Wishful Thinking by Go West, Regret by New Order and Roll to Me by Del Amitri.

The initial selection of the songs was done by Darik.

In the media statement, Nana Serkedjieva, marketing and public relations manager at Eko Bulgaria, said that the goal of the Call When You Arrive! campaign was to encourage intelligent driving habits on the road by conveying a sense of emotional responsibility
