The newly selected secret archives declassification committee already got its first task. The committee will examine the past of Bulgarian candidates for members of the European parliament (MEP).
On April 5 National Assembly selected the committee which will look into the documents of State Security former intelligence service. The archives are said to contain information on a number of public figures.
Despite the short term remaining until the MEP elections in May, 2007, the committee will do its best to inspect the lists with the candidates, head of the committee Evtim Kostadinov said.
Kostadinov said that he hoped that the committee will inspect the files of some well-known public officials and will inform the people if these people were previously related to State Security.
The first meeting of the new committee will take place on April 10.
