The dossier opening committee in Bulgaria will check up the past of all ministers and high-level officials in order to find out whether any of them has an intelligence service dossier.
The committee was set up to open the classified files of the former State Security intelligence service. It already revealed that six candidate members of the European Parliament (MEP) had intelligence dossiers.
The committee has sent letters to Parliament, the Cabinet, the Presidency and the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) requesting to receive lists of all officials which took various positions within the ministries since 1991 until now, dossier opening committee head Evtim Kostadinov said, as quoted by Focus news agency.
The results of the check-up will appear at the end of June or the beginning of July.
The SJC will have to provide a list of the names of all investigators and prosecutors from 1991 until now. After the check-up is completed, the committee will start examining all candidates for participation in the municipal elections.
