DOSSIER OPENING COMMISSION IN BULGARIA HOLDS ITS FIRST SESSION

The newly formed classified archives opening commission in Bulgaria will hold its first session on April 10.

The aim of the commission is to present information contained in secret archives of the former intelligence service State Security. Files contain data on public officials, who allegedly cooperated with the service.

Deputy head of the commission Orhan Ismailov said that its aim will be to close past chapters and enable Bulgaria continue developing as a NATO and EU member.

Society had the right to learn about the activities of State Security, Ismailov told Bulgarian National Radio.

The commission will develop as an independent organ that will not yield to pressure, Ismailov said.

As a first task, the commission will check the past of all candidates running in the members of European Parliament (MEP) elections.
