The parliamentary national security committee offered changes to dossier opening and classified information regulations that would not affect the work of the intelligence.
On December 5 former agents said that the dossier opening law was anti-constitutional and was going to ruin the work of the intelligence.
According to the proposed changes, employees of the intelligence service and the Defence Ministry military information office would keep their dossiers closed.
Prime Minister Sergei Stanishev said that the past of the services should be distinguished from their current work.
Stanishev said that the proper work of the intelligence should be guaranteed but hopefully this would not affect dossier opening.
In the summer of 2006 the Interior Ministry announced it would start opening previously classified files. The files supposedly contain information on collaboration with communist-time intelligence units.
As previously mentioned in various media, a number of public figures probably collaborated with the state security and provided it with information.
Parliamentary opposition called for the complete opening of classified archives. The National Movement Simeon II (NMSII) said it also supported full de-classification. Some MPs, however, said that the complete opening could harm the work of the intelligence.
