DEPUTY JUSTICE MINISTER IN BULGARIA RESIGNS

Deputy Justice Minister Ana Karaivanova has submitted her resignation request to Prime Minister Sergei Stanishev.

Justice Ministry confirmed the information on July 2.

Her decision will be yet another Cabinet change, after the ones following a recent corruption controversy in the country.

Two deputy ministers were dismissed because of the controversy, Deputy Economy minister Kornelia Ninova and Deputy Disaster Management Minister Delyan Peevski.

The issue started with the statements of National Investigative Service (NSI) head Angel Alexandrov that Economy and Energy Minister Roumen Ovcharov threatened him in connection to an investigation. Both officials resigned.

Later, Justice Minister Georgi Petkanov also left office, saying he had personal reasons to resign.
