12:19 Wed 06 Jun 2007

Deputy Finance Minister Georgi Kadiev submitted his resignation to Prime Minister Sergei Stanishev on June 1.

Kadiev confirmed the information on June 5 but refrained from presenting his reasons.

Stanishev was still considering whether to accept the resignation, Focus news agency reported.

According to reports, Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF), of which Kadiev is a member, will sacrifice three deputy ministers in order to keep the its three current Cabinet members.

Cabinet re-shuffles are expected after Bulgarias first members of European Parliament (MEP) elections and the shifting attitude of voters. Economy Minister Roumen Ovcharov and Justice Minister Georgi Petkanov already resigned.

Finance Minister Plamen Oresharski said that Kadievs decision was matter of personal choice. According to ministry sources Kadievs leave was unrelated to the resignation of Ovcharov.
