On April 10 President Georgi Purvanov will award ice dance world champions Albena Denkova and Maxim Staviski Stara Planina medals.
Denkova and Staviski will get the award for their significant contribution to the development of Bulgarian sport. The two became world champions for the first time in 2006 in Canada’s Calgary. They defended the title in 2007 in Tokyo.
Coaches Natalia Linichuk and Genadi Karponosov will arrive to Bulgaria for the award ceremony.
The coaches will also receive presidential distinction, Bulgarian National Radio reported. They will be awarded for the support and for winning together with Denkova and Staviski a second world title.
Stara Planina medals are the highest national awards given to public figures, politicians and athletes who have achieved significant successes in their sphere of competence.
