Bulgaria should keep an eye on the second trial of the nurses sentenced to death for deliberate HIV infection of more than 420 children in Libya, Deputy Justice minister Margarit Ganev said.
Libya recently added accusations of slander involving Libyan officers. The nurses said that the officers tortured them into confessing guilt.
The trial combined articles from Libya's criminal and civil code and would be held in three institutions, said Ganev.
Defamation hearings began with difficulties on first instance, said Ganev. It was impossible to predict how long the trial would last, said he.
Osman Bizanti, attorney of the nurses, told Agence France-Presse (AFP) that the Bulgarians were in low spirits.
Bizanti also said that he was optimistic, but could not exclude the possibility of confirmation of the death verdicts.
