A second case of Danube River pollution occurred in Bulgaria this week.

On Thursday January 18 the State Agency for Civil Protection located oil spills near Novo Selo, Bulgarian news agency BTA reported.

The spills had low density and were similar to the pollutant located in the river on January 16, head of the agency in Vidin Anatoli Tsanov said.

Oil spots were 50m wide and would probably not reach Vidin, said Tsanov. Water samples will be taken to identify the pollutant.

Since the beginning of the year, the Bulgarian part of Danube River is polluted for the third time.

Bulgaria is to request from its neighbouring countries information on the source of pollution. Previously experts said that the spills most probably originated in Serbia.
