A spicy new generation of salsa dancing will be the focus of the fourth Bulgarian Salsa Festival, to be held in Sofia from May 2 to 4 2008. The event will include professional demonstrations of variations on salsa, presentations of current salsa trends and choreography, performances, thematic DJ parties and a title-granting competition. Activities are open to anyone who wishes to register, be he or she a salsa virtuoso or principiante.
Organised by BG Salsa Fiesta Team, in partnership with Sofia municipalitys cultural department and supported by Fanta, the festival is expected to draw more than 7000 participants from countries including Brazil, Bulgaria, Colombia, France, Germany, Israel, the Netherlands, Romania, Spain, Turkey, the UK and the US. Among them will be leading Bulgarian and foreign instructors and talents in a range of Latino dances, such as salsa, bachata, cha-cha-cha, zouk, reggaeton, merengue and rumba.
Workshops will take place in the Central Military Club, where four halls have been secured and are to be outfitted with suitable flooring.
DJs from Belgium, Bulgaria, Dubai, Germany, the Netherlands, Switzerland and Turkey will spin tunes at clubs like Mascara and Party Center 4km to accompany the footwork. Kalin Velyov and the group Tumbaito are expected to present a salsa concert.
To benefit the stamina and health of participants, smoking will be banned in the workshop and party halls.
At a news conference held on April 3 in the Sofia club Salsa Plus, organisers said that dance lessons offered in the frame of the festival would present a new form of interaction and exchange of dance-related knowledge in an forum open to the public. As such, from April 12 until the festival kicks off on May 2, free salsa demonstrations and lessons will be offered to all interested, in various locations around Sofia.
And, as in the three past years, the fourth BG Salsa Festival [www.bgsalsafiesta.com] will serve as a qualifying rounds for participation in the December 2008 world salsa championships, to be held at Disney World in Orlando, Florida.
