On November 20 2007, Bulgarian authorities closed Kapitan Andreevo border checkpoint between Bulgaria and Turkey because heavy downpours had flooded the checkpoint.
The region of the railway station of the checkpoint was flooded, mediapool.bg said. Water reached 50cm and continued to rise.
Kalamitsa River overflowed and flooded the road near the village of Kapitan Andreevo, National Service Civil Protection said.
Haskovo suffered water shortages as pumping stations of the water supply system of the town were flooded. The town may have a water regime imposed.
Ivailovgrad dam overflowed with 812 cu m per second. Several smaller dams in the region of Dimitrovgrad were also overflowing, Bulgarian news agency BTA said.
Situation remained critical in some municipalities in the country, mediapool.bg said. The state of emergency in the town of Simeonovgrad and three municipalities in the region of Stara Zagora was still on.
Authorities had to evacuate 35 people from the Roma-populated neighbourhood of the coastal town of Tsarevo.
The road connection Stara Zagora and Kazanluk was closed after the Muglizhka river overflowed. Shipka pass was open, but cargo vehicles should pass without trailers or semi-trailers and with snow-chains.
