On December 12 2007, the Bulgarian military and German carmaker Daimler signed a deal for the country to purchase 155 new armoured vehicles in the next two years.
The deal was worth 17 million euro, Bulgaria’s Defence Ministry announced.
The December 12 deal was just part of a long-term framework agreement between the ministry and Daimler for the delivery of up to 12 900 new Mercedes Benz vehicles, including buses, trucks and ambulances, Reuters said. The delivery would be carried out in the next 20 years.
Until now, the military had received 200 new vehicles.
Bulgaria was modernising its ageing military equipment to meet Nato standards, Reuters said. Military modernisation would allow Bulgaria to participate more fully in Nato operations abroad.
