CSKA wins Bulgarian football title
23:48 Wed 30 Apr 2008 - Petar Kostadinov

CSKA Sofia football club won its record 31st Bulgarian football championship title on April 30 2008 after a 3:1 away win against Botev Plovdiv.
The win secured the title for CSKA three rounds before the end of the season with a 13 point lead ahead of rivals Levski.

The match in Plovdiv was played behind closed doors because of a penalty imposed by Bulgarian Football Union (BFU) on Botev.

At the same time the second team on the table Levski lost its game against Chernomorets Bourgas by 2:1.

The title is extra valuable for CSKA because it comes in the year when the team celebrates its 60th anniversary.

Another reward for CSKA is that they will face their main rivals in Bulgaria, Levski, on May 10 as the new champions.

CSKA’s president Alexander Tomov already asked BFU to present CSKA with the cup in CSKA‘s stadium at the beginning of the game against Levski.

Levski has been Bulgaria’s champion for the past two years.
