Court to hear on Kozlodui
13:00 Thu 13 Feb 2003

A five-member panel of the Supreme Administrative Court will hear the case on the government's decision on Kozlodui nuclear power plant's Units 3 and 4 at an open meeting on February 28. The court's decision, to be announced within thirty days, will be final and will not be subject to appeal.

At the beginning of January, a three-member panel of the Supreme Administrative Court revoked the Council of Minister's decision, which approved additional information on the Energy chapter of the acquis communautaire. By that additional information, Bulgaria undertook to close Kozlodui Units 3 and 4 units in 2006 in exchange for a commitment to a new technical expert inspection or peer review of the two reactors' safety.

The court acted upon a request by left-wing MPs, led by Lyuben Kornezov.

The Cabinet filed three appeals against the decision of the Court ten days ago - on the part of the Cabinet, the Foreign Minister, the Euro-integration Minister and the Energy Minister.
