COURT PROCEEDINGS OVER LIM TRAGEDY CONTINUE IN BULGARIA
10:00 Fri 17 Feb 2006

Today the court in Veliko Turnovo will continue its session on the Lim case. Twelve children from Svishtov drowned in the Lim river on April 4 2004 after a traffic accident occurred.

Yesterday's court session continued more than nine hours, Focus news agency reported. Expert analysis on the case presented the causes that lead to the accident.

Analysts still cannot determine whether the bus driver is responsible for the accident or if a technical failure led to the tragedy. Lawyers of bus driver Ilia Izmirliev said they would request additional independent expertise.

A group of 41 students aged 12 to 19 traveled in the bus together with their teachers, a tour guide and two drivers.

After the accident the bus fell in the river. Because of the rescue operation most of the children were taken out of the vehicle before it filled up with water. On May 18 2004 parents request investigation over the causes of the accident. On October 5 the case was submitted to the Smolyan regional prosecution.
