COURT PROCEEDINGS IN BULGARIA AIMED AT UNDERMINING ATAKA, SIDEROV SAYS
16:18 Tue 18 Apr 2006

Liubomir Bakyrdjiev, the driver of ultra-nationalist Ataka movement leader Volen Siderov, testified in the Pazardjik prosecution today.

The driver is allegedly involved in a quarrel and a fight that occurred on April 7. Yesterday Ataka member Pavel Chernev said Bakyrdjiev was involved, but to hide his criminal past Siderov insisted on false testimony.

This morning Bakyrdjiev arrived in Pazardjik, where the investigation is taking place, together with Chernev, BGNES news agency reported.

The false testimony of two Ataka members is already acknowledged fact, Interior Minister Roumen Petkov said. All evidence has been submitted to investigators and the process is already underway, Petkov said.

Siderov said the whole investigation is a political campaign aimed against Ataka and against the movement's leadership in particular.

According to Siderov, Chernev is the only person responsible for his statements. No one forced Chernev to provide a false testimony, Siderov said.
