Ashim Hadzji Asan, member of the Islamic religious council, has accused the chairperson of the Sofia City Court, Svetlin Mihailov, of corruption.
The complaint was filed with the High Judiciary Council on April 23, Zagrada.bg said.
On April 19, Moustafa Alish Hadji was elected as the chief mufti in Bulgaria. According to Asan however, the elections were manipulated and the election of Hadji was illegitimate.
Asan accused Mihailov of receiving 300 000 leva to change the statutes of the religious council. According to Asan, the head of corporate registration at the city court Roumyana Palikarova received 200 000 leva for replacing the original statutes with the a modified version in which the court calls for a meeting of the council. Asan said that that the court could not call such a meeting, Zagrada reported.
If the court in Bulgaria would not respond within two weeks, Asan said, 12 muftis and 55 imams would travel from Bulgaria to Brussels to protest. "Let them trigger the safeguard clauses because of our judiciary system," Asan was quoted as saying by Zagrada.
The only official reaction from Hadji was an announcement through a PR agency on April 24 that an official statement would be made the following day at a media conference.
