Sofia's municipal inspectorate would start control checks on the removal of municipal election campaign materials, the municipal press office announced on November 8 2007.
The deadline by which political parties would have to have removed election posters from Sofia's street was November 8, Bulgarian news agency BTA said.
On October 30, the municipality had sent a letter to political parties, in which it reminded them that the deadline for removal of election materials was three days after the last round of municipal elections.
According to the Law for municipal elections, fines for not removing campaign material before the deadline could be up to 2 000 leva.
Municipal inspectorate would send notifications of violations to the municipal election committee, while fines would be handed down by regional managers.
Removal of the election posters has to happen at the expense of the political parties, not tax payers, the letter from the municipality said.
