A mechanism for political and military consultation will be created to control the negotiations between the US and Bulgaria for the positioning of foreign troops on Bulgarian territory.
A commission with representatives of both sides will monitor the execution of the agreement and the use of military equipment, the Bulgarian National Radio reported.
Yesterday Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) member and party spokesperson Angel Naidenov presented the results of the talks between the leaders of the ruling tripartite coalition. One of the focal discussion topics was the final stage of negotiations between Bulgaria and the US.
Naidenov said a separate agreement will be signed for each military base. It will regulate the usage of the specific base only. The main agreement and the annexes will be ratifies in Parliament.
The agreement would likely be signed in the end of April but if needed, the process will be delayed, Naidenov said.
Additional talks will determine the maximum number of US soldiers each base will host. Negotiations for the two main bases have been concluded but the US is expected to request storage places, maneuver terrains and military training grounds.
The access of US soldiers to military infrastructure also remains a topic of discussions. Bulgaria should maintain the right to monitor the process, said Naidenov.
