11:21 Fri 16 Nov 2007 - Spasena Baramova

Construction works in Bulgaria's Bansko would stop from December 1 2007 to April 1 2008, Bansko's mayor Alexander Kravarov announced as quoted by Dnevnik daily.

The aim is to not disturb tourists during the holiday season. A number of streets in Bansko would be closed for trucks. Over 30 investors and constructors as well as the police had been informed of the measure, Dnevnik daily reported.

Kravarov said this measure was introduced in Bansko for the 4th consecutive year but this time ambitions were that it would not be violated. According to Kravarov fines for violators could vary from 1000 to 5000 leva.

Investors' interest in Bansko remained high, Kravarov said. For now the municipality has stopped issuing construction permits and issues ones only for sites that submitted their documents a year or 2 ago. The mayor said the issuing of permits would begin again after zoning plans were ready.

Bansko is ready to receive 15 thousand tourists this winter. 10 new hotels and holiday sites will open their doors to tourists. The launch of the 2007/2008  ski season will be attended by ski legends Janica Kostelić, Kjetil André Aamodt and Marc Girardelli as well as famous mountaineer Reinhold Messner.

Two ski tracks were renovated for the new season and were supplied with artificial-snow machines, Dnevnik daily said. A new 4-seat ski lift had been built. The total length of the ski tracks is 70 km, 5 km more than the past winter season.

Meanwhile construction works at another ski resort – Pamporovo were stopped until April 1 2008 as well.
