CONSTRUCTION TO BE LIMITED IN BULGARIA'S BANSKO
09:00 Mon 10 Jul 2006

Bansko’s municipal council decided to limit hotel construction in the winter resort, Bansko mayor Aleksander Kravarov said.

Over-construction is one of the main problems in the resort, Novinar newspaper reported.

Nearly 10 000 construction workers were employed on projects in Bansko, Kravarov said. Some of them would be transferred to the construction of ski tracks, said he. The resort plans to have additional 40 km of ski tracks.

Three companies already showed interest in the construction of ski tracks, said Kravarov. The companies were Austrian, Irish and Bulgarian.

Currently Bansko can accommodate 30 000 tourists in its 50 hotels. The resort lacked qualified staff, which lowered the quality of tourism services offered, Kravarov said.

Bansko would attempt developing summer tourism opportunities, as well, Kravarov said. Two golf courses would be constructed between Razlog and Bansko, said Kravarov.
