Bulgaria’s natural resources are in danger, because of the construction boom in the country.
A number of areas that were to be included in the European environmental network Natura 2000 were taken out due to the interest of investors, German Eurasische Magazin reported.
Bulgarian Biodiversity Foundation representative Yordanka Dineva said that the exclusion of all the territories resulted from economic interests.
The construction sector is flourishing in Bulgaria’s coastal areas and in the mountains. The fact that a number of the projects violate Bulgaria’s legislation fails to bother local authorities, the magazine said.
Investors used disinformation to manipulate local people against Natura 2000. They cheated land owners saying that prices of property included in the network will drop.
Bulgarian ecologists said that the country was among the EU members with richest bio-diversity, but some regions were endangered of being completely cast into concrete.
