CONSTRUCTION BAN IN BULGARIA'S RESORTS ENFORCED THROUGH INSPECTIONS
13:17 Tue 30 May 2006

State Agency on Tourism (SAT), the Interior Ministry and representatives of tourism institutions will inspect the readiness of Bulgarian seaside resorts to start the new summer season.

The inspection focuses on the present situation in the resort and whether construction works there  stopped,  Focus news agency reported. Cranes and trucks could still be seen in the coastal resorts despite a  ban imposed on May 15 with the start of the season.

SAT chairman Mario Al-Djebouri said that the agency was deprived of legal authority to stop construction works and help for a successful summer season. Now the agency could only register violations and notify the respective authorities.

Al-Djebouri said that construction works on the beach led to a decrease in the number of foreign tourists. The country risks to lose present and potential tourists because of this setback.

Tourist safety will be guaranteed by a new police squad, equipped with bicycles. The new type of 'mobile' policemen will start patrolling the seaside within two weeks. The project was drafted and financed by the SAT.
