09:03 Wed 12 Sep 2007

Owners of land that is to be included in the environmental network Natura 2000 would be able to receive compensation up to 750 euro per 10 000 sq m a year.

Deputy Agriculture and Food Minister Dimitar Peichev said as quoted by investor.bg that the amount of the compensation would depend on the number of restrictions applied to the various regions.

Suha reka is the first zone to be officially included in Natura 2000.

Suha reka covers 250 million sq m in the regions of Silistra and Dobritch. The order for its inclusion in Natura 2000 would probably be issued within a month, Environment and Water Affairs Minister Djevdet Chakurov said.

The order envisions 11 types of restrictions, the number of which could change after discussions between the heads of municipalities with protected zones on their territories, and the Environment and Water Affairs Ministry.

Some of the restrictions include changes in the way in which meadows and pastures are used.
