Bulgaria should discuss the provision of more financial aid for the closure of Kozloduy nuclear power plant (NPP) units, European Integration Minister Gergana Gruncharova said.

More funds could be requested after 2009, Gruncharova told Bulgarian National Radio.

In the coming months, financial frameworks for the period from 2009 to 2013 would be re-considered, Gruncharov said. This gives the country a chance to negotiate the provision of EU financial aid for the reactor closure.

Bulgaria should specify the type of compensation needed, Gruncharova said.

The usage of renewable energy resources and bio-fuels is becoming central and should be priority for Bulgaria’s energy sector, Gruncharova said.

On May 25 European energy commissioner Andris Piebalgs visited Bulgaria and met Prime Minister Sergei Stanishev.

Europe supports the execution of the Bourgas- Alexandroupolis oil pipeline project, Piebalgs previously said. Stanishev said that Bulgaria would rely on EU support for the construction of its second NPP Belene.
