COMMON RIGHT WING CANDIDATE SHOULD BE ABLE TO REPLACE BULGARIA'S CURRENT PRESIDENT- UDF
13:49 Tue 18 Jul 2006

Right-wing parties in Bulgaria should remember that the aim of selecting a common rightist presidential candidate was finding a good alternative to the re-election of President Georgi Purvanov, Union of Democratic Forces (UDF) member Eleonora Nikolova said.

What mattered was changing the current status-quo, Nikolova said. Rightist parties needed to find someone people would be willing to vote for, rather than a common candidate approved by all parties, said she.

UDF said it was wise to wait and think before selecting the common candidate. On July 19 leaders of all rightist formations would meet to discuss the nominees, Focus news agency reported.

Talks between the eight parliamentary represented parties have been going on for several months already without producing any results.

Leader of Democrats for Strong Bulgaria (DSB) Ivan Kostov said that he would take part inthe talks. DSB has been among the parties dissatisfied with the suggested nominees so far.
