The coastal municipality of Tsarevo has called for the introduction of a two-year construction ban in Strandzha natural reserve to stave off over-construction on the southern Black Sea coast.
The municipality has proposed that there be a new delimitation of the borders of the park and the introduction of a management plan for the park, Pari daily said.
Evgenii Mosinov, Tsarevo municipality representative, told Pari that the municipality was against abolishing the nature reserve status of the park and wanted only clarity on its borders.
The park was declared a nature reserve in 1995, but its borders were not determined. Real estate investors made use of the loopholes in the legislation and started building.
The Supreme Administrative Court reserve the park’s status as a nature reserve at the end of June 2007, which led to protests by environmental organisations. A week later, the Supreme Administrative Prosecutor's Office (SAPO), started to take steps to reverse the court’s decision.
Mosinov said that the current situation was causing chaos, some property investors were building, ignoring any restrictions, land owners were selling their properties while this was possible, while others were buying up inexpensive land, waiting for its price to rise.
