The Customs Agency would dispatch officials to Bulgaria's permanent representation to the European Union, the newly-endorsed changes to Customs Agency's Constitutive Charter read, the press office of the government announced on Thursday.
The officials will be working in close partnership with the World Customs Organisation, also based in Brussels and the Bucharest-based Regional Centre for Combating Trans-border Crime to the South-Eastern Cooperation Initiative (SECI).
In addition, they will be partaking in EU meetings aimed at drafting regulatory acts of the Union.
Another change elaborates on the duties of the Central Customs Management directorate. While a third change extends the scope of control granted to the mobile customs groups, namely, they are now authorised to inspect all border checkpoints in the country. To date authorisation spanned checkpoints within the country only.
A charter change strips the customs administration of its duty to collect administrative fees, in line with efforts to harmonise local and EU legislation.
