PARLIAMENT last week elected the new members of the Commission for Protection of Competition (CPC).
The MPs elected Petko Nikolov as chairperson, accepting the nomination of the National Movement Simeon II (NMSII). Until recently Nikolov was with the Privatisation Agency.
The other three members of the CPC proposed by the NMSII are Rumyana Karlova, legal expert and head of the legal directorate of the CPC, Vessela Antonova, chief legal expert of the CPC on legal-technical issues and Elena Stoimenova member of the economy team of the CPC.
As deputy heads, Redjep Mustafa and Vesselin Bozhkov were elected.
The last new member of the CPC elected by Parliament was Maria Popova.
Nikolov is the second head of the PA who quit his position at a crucial moment in the agency's work. The first one to do so was the previous head Apostol Apostolov who quit during the final stages of the sale of Bulgartabac. Back then the procedure was completed by Apostolov's deputy, Ilian Vassilev, but later was suspended following a political decision by the NMSII and their coalition partners from the Movement for Rights and Freedoms.
