CABINET CAN CARRY OUT BULGARIA’S HEALTHCARE REFORM- RULING COALITION
13:18 Fri 02 Mar 2007

Members of the ruling tripartite coalition said that they voted against the no-confidence motion of the opposition because the Cabinet could carry out successfully reforms in the healthcare sector.

Opposition parties tabled the second no-confidence motion against the Sergei Stanishev Cabinet in February 2007. Their reason was the crisis Bulgaria’s healthcare sector experienced. The motion failed after voting on March 2.

Coalition for Bulgaria member Rositsa Yanakieva said that the problems in the sector could not be viewed as crisis. When reforms started, the system was unprepared to change but cabinets were working on the problem, Yanakieva said.

In the past year and a half Cabinet created conditions for better control of the healthcare system, Yanakieva said.

Representative of the ruling Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) Fatme Iliaz said that she voted against the motion since opposition only offered ‘populist criticism’ without providing an alternative.

The arguments parties in opposition provided once again showed that the ruling coalition was the only possible governance option, Iliaz said.

It is much easier for opposition to criticise rather than to take active role in finding a solution, Iliaz said.
