The Cabinet has allocated 50 million leva for the maintenance of University students’ accommodation in Studentski Grad, Sofia. The repairs have already started in the University of National and World Economy (UNWE), Sofia University (SU) and the Technical University.
Minister of Education Daniel Vulchev said that the money would be enough for the repairs of 11 apartment blocks, Bulgarian-language Investor.bg reported on August 19.
In one of UNWE’s blocks the radiators and water mains have been changed and all rooms are now equipped with separate electrometers. UNEW has about 5000 beds in the accommodation district.
Rooms of an apartment block containing 586 beds have been entirely renewed. Water mains, electricity installations, fittings, walls, floors and ceilings have been changed, as well as the insulation of the building.
The total number of student buildings is 126 with more than 50 000 beds in total. Most of the concrete buildings that were constructed in the 1970s and 1980s are in very bad condition and need a complete overhaul.
