Most Bulgarians disagree with the possibility for Bulgaria’s delayed EU accession, a poll of the National Centre for the Study of Public Opinion shows.
In the beginning of March, analysts registered an increase in the positive attitude toward Bulgaria’s EU membership, Bulgarian National Radio reported.
According to the results of the poll, 74 per cent of the Bulgarians support the EU entry. Previously the percentage did not exceed 66 per cent.
The increase resulted from the support of people who previously were uncertain. A two-per cent increase for EU membership was registered among former opposition to the idea.
Support for EU membership was similarly high in September 2004, when Bulgaria successfully concluded accession negotiations.
Research during the past three years shows Bulgarians support EU entry, regardless of political affiliation.
Most people would be disappointed in case the country’s accession is postponed. In this manner the Cabinet and political elite could be faced with a potentially dangerous situation. Nearly 54 per cent of all Bulgarian fail to accept delayed accession, regardless of the causes, the poll shows.
