Bulgarian businessman Vasil Bozhkov and the widow of the banker Emil Kyulev, Vessela Kyuleva are among the 100 richest people in Eastern Europe.
Poland’s Wprost weekly drafted the ranking for 2006, mediapool.bg reported.
Bozhkov ranked 51st having a fortune of $1 billion and Kyuleva ranked 95th with $40 million.
The magazine said that since 2002 when Bozhkov entered the ranking, his fortune constantly increased starting from $500 million. He added $300 million to his fortune for only one year from 2005 to 2006.
Bozhkov accumulated his initial capital from trade with currency according to Wprost. The businessman controlled 90 companies in the sphere of construction, tourism, real estate and gambling. He owned a large collection of antiques and over three thousand pictures worth $60 million.
Kyuleva's fortune has been inherited from her husband who was killed in 2005. In the year of his murder he stood 73rd in the same ranking.
The governor of Russian province Chukotka, Roman Abramovich leads the top 100 of richest Eastern Europeans. Abramovich's fortune amounted to $19.5 billion. The Russian billionaire Oleg Deripaska, who has stable positions in the aluminum industry, ranked second in wealth. Russian Mikhail Fridman ranked third.
