Bulgarian women still receive lower salaries than men
18:50 Fri 07 Mar 2008 - Petar Kostadinov

Women in Bulgaria receive 25 to 30 per cent lower salaries than their male colleagues, Lili Dimova, head of the Agency for Social Analysis, said, as quoted by mediapool.bg on March 7.

Females in other European Union countries received 15 per cent lower salaries than their male counterparts, which, correspondingly, put Bulgarian women in an unfavourable position.

Bulgarian women were often subject to discrimination when applying for a job, Dimova said. They needed more energy to be able to manage both their family and their professional duties and were more often left without a job than males.

According to the Confederation of Trade Unions in Bulgaria (KNSB), women got lower pensions as well as a result of the shorter period of their professional careers.
