The Commission for Protection of Competition (CPC) imposed a 200 000 leva fine on the Bulgarian Telecommunications Company (BTC) for failing to act on a previous CPC decision.
In 2005 the CPC ruled out that BTC should give access to internet providers in Bulgaria to its ADSL network, Darik Radio reported.
A recent inspection revealed that BTC only enabled internet providers to re-sell access to the ADSL network. In this manner BTC prevented other companies from offering independently internet access to their clients, Darik reported.
By selling ADSL service packages alternative operators were offering a service that clients could get directly from BTC.
CPC ruled out that BTC's actions prevented other companies from entering the market under question. BTC also maintained and enforced its monopoly position on the telecommunications market, CPC said.
Such actions could harm the efficiency of competition, preventing lower prices and higher service quality, Darik reported.
