BULGARIAN TEACHERS SET TO REJECT AGREEMENT
15:52 Mon 29 Oct 2007

Bulgarian teachers would not be ready to mandate the unions to sign the agreement reached on October 26 with the Education Ministry, teacher Ana Ananieva told journalists at the offices of union KT Podkrepa on October 29.

Ananieva spoke to journalists during a break in the meetings, Bulgarian National Radio said.

Present in the meetings were representatives of strike committees from 26 regions in the country.

According to Ananieva, the information presented by the regional coordinators was very unclear. Some counted number of teachers, others numbers of schools.

If the proposed agreement was not signed on October 29, the strike would continue and concrete steps in that direction would be considered, Ananieva said.

The strike would continue until a satisfactory result was reached, she said.

According to her, the start salary for a teacher should be tied to the national minimal salary, and should be two and half times the minimal salary.
