BULGARIAN TEACHERS PUT MEETINGS ON HOLD FOR TWO DAYS
12:02 Mon 22 Oct 2007

The national strike committee has asked Bulgarian teachers to put the protest meetings in Sofia on hold for two days while the discussion and voting on the vote of no-confidence against the current cabinet takes place.

The vote of no-confidence would be discussed on October 22 and voted on the next day.

If there would not be a solution to the problem by Wednesday, the national strike committee said in a press statement, protests would take place in the regions and from 16.30 on in front of Council of Ministers in Sofia.

The strike committee made an appeal to Education Minister Daniel Vulchev as their social partner, with whom they would have to sign a strike agreement and not prolong the strike. The sharp social conflict was of concern to every Bulgarian family and the wish of teachers was to have an agreement signed which would guarantee a worthy salary to those working in the educational system, and in which there are no winners and nolosers, the committee told Focus news agency.
