Private Dianko Yordanov, a member of the Bulgarian armed forces in Iraq, sustained a bullet wound on Tuesday, near the Echo base. It is not clear from where the bullet was fired. The incident occurred at about noon local time on a market near the base, the Defence Ministry announced. There is no threat to the life or health of Private Yordanov. An official commission will investigate the case.
The question over Bulgarian participation in Iraq after the pullout of troops at the end of December would be considered by the ruling coalition's council, Defence Minister Vesselin Bliznakov said. One of the options is the sending of 120 rangers for a military-humanitarian mission. Some of the main factors that needed to be taken into account included the type of mission, expenses and the responsibility that would fall on Bulgarian troops, Bliznakov said. The new Bulgarian mission is expected to be located 70km north of Baghdad in the Ashraf military camp, mediapool.bg reported.
