On January 7, many roads in the country were closed or hardly accessible. In the Gabrovo region, roads were accessible under heavy winter conditions, BTA said. In many places there was ice on the roads.

The Shipka pass was closed for cargo traffic with trailers, the temperature there was 1 degree, BTA said.

Passages Troyan - Kurnare, Etropole - Zlatitsa, Tvurditsa - Elena, Vurbishkiyat and Yundolskiyat passages, as well as the road between Shipkovo and Ribaritsa had been closed.

In Sevlievo, the temperature was around minus 10 degrees and in Gabrovo, Tryavna and Dryanovo between minus 4 and 6. There was 60 to 70 cm of snow in many places, BTA warned.

Because of icy roads, travelling had been banned in the regions of Yambol and Haskovo, the Republican Road Infrastructure fund said.

Rain overnight had made the roads in the Stara Zagora region icy, regional police said on the morning of January 7.

Throughout the country, roads were wet or icy. In the Yambol region, visibility was limited to 150 meters, BTA said.
In many places snow was falling.

Cars were not allowed to travel without snow chains or with trailers in many places in the country, BTA said.

Police advised not to travel if it was not necessary. Road police warned drivers not to drive faster than 20 to 30 km per hour.
Cars deemed not suitably equipped for the winter circumstances would be stopped by road police.
