National council on biodiversity approved all proposed areas for Natura 2000, with the exception of the Rila Buffer. This despite the advise from Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS) to follow initial borders, Dnevnik reported on October 25.
Within the Rila Buffer zone were two ski resorts, Super Borovets and Ezerata-Panichishte-Vruh Kaboul.
The national council accepted to cut 2 000 hectare from the Kaliakra zone and 2 200 hectare from the Irakli-Emine zone. The territory of Kaliakra was intended for investment in the construction of windmill parks.
For the Irakli-Emine area, a zoning plan had already been accepted.
At the proposal of BAS, four smaller areas have been included with a total area of less than 2 000 hectare, Dnevnik said.
