At 1am on May 12 a bomb exploded in the ultra-nationalist movement Ataka club in Varna, causing damages but no casualties, Ataka leader Volen Siderov said.

During a sitting of the National Assembly Siderov said that the device had been thrown through the window of the club. The police came six hours later, Siderov added.

He described the incident as a 'terrorist act' and 'bomb assault'. This was part of a 'war' other political forces were leading against the movement, he said. According to Siderov, on previous similar occasions, like the notorious incident on the Trakiya highway, the police had not responded adequately and had deliberately refused to prosecute the 'terrorists' responsible for the assaults.

Sideov directly accused Interior Minister Roumen Petkov that he was among those leading a war against Ataka. Petkov refused to comment Siderov's accusations and said only that the case was already being properly investigated. The police was informed for the incident at 7am, which was the only reason why investigation began hours later.

Siderov left the plenary hall of the National Assembly as a sign of protest, soon followed by the other Ataka MPs.
