Parliament has rejected a request from the Democrats for Strong Bulgaria (DSB) to hear Prime Minister Sergei Stanishev about the teachers' strikes, Focus news agency reported.

DSB had for a second time requested to hear Stanishev in the National Assembly. United Democratic Forces' (UDF) Ivan Kostov said the first request had not been valid, but since then the strike had politicized, Focus reported.

There was a crisis in the country's management, Kostov said, because of the extreme positions taken by Stanishev.

The National Assembly could intervene by engaging in dialog, Kostov said. Kostov proposed for the Prime Minister to come to the National Assembly in order to hear the parliamentary groups and members of parliaments on the issue.

Chairman of the National Assembly Georgi Pirinski said Parliament could not mediate in the problem with the teachers' strike.

Bulgarian teachers have been on an effective strike from September 24, demanding a gradual salary increase of 100 per cent.
